John 8:56 (CSB): Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day; he saw it and was glad.”
Genesis 12, 15, 17, 18, 24
“You’re not even 50! How have you seen Abraham?”
John 8:58 (CSB): Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, before Abraham was, I am.”
“I am.”
They pick up stones to kill Him
The chapter is bookended by stories about throwing stones.
What does this passage teach us about Jesus?
He came to tell the truth
He came to bring honor to His Father
His teaching brings life.
He is God in the flesh.
